Proposed Actions
– Universities should provide hard money to support technicians in laboratories, providing continuity between students/postdocs and retaining skills and expertise regardless of project funding.
– Funding agencies should create incentives to staff laboratories with technicians, such as continued support mechanisms during funding gaps and/or additional years (dollars) of support for a lab with a technician over an army of PhD students.
